The Buildings Maintenance Chairman is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the physical property of the church. If the repair is minor, and the person is capable of making the repair, the person may make the repair himself. If the repair is major, the person is responsible for contacting a repairman and being present during the repair.
Examples of minor repairs are such things as replacing interior and exterior lights and/or light fixtures for the church and parish hall. This duty would include purchasing of the proper parts for such repair. Another example would be arranging for rodent and insect extermination. Minor plumbing repair and HVAC filter replacement are further examples of minor maintenance duties.
For major repair, the chairman must make arrangements with an appropriate contractor for repair. Examples of major repair would be such things as major HVAC repair, plumbing repair, roof replacement/repair, tree removal from windstorm damage, major painting jobs, etc.
